Family Respite Care Program
When a child exhibits challenging behaviors, parents and caregivers often don’t feel equipped to manage the situation – but The Foundling’s Family Respite Care program can help get families back on track. The program provides short-term respite care, coupled with evidence-based interventions that can address the immediate crisis and support improved behavior, family functioning, and stability – and prevent entry into the foster care or juvenile justice systems.
Operating in all five boroughs of New York City, the program places the child in a safe, supportive home for up to 30 days. During this timeframe, the program utilizes two highly-effective intervention models – GenPMTO and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy – to engage the entire family in treatment. Working collaboratively with our team, children and their parents/caregivers explore solutions, reinforce progress, recognize their strengths, and build cohesion. Upon reunification, families receive aftercare sessions, as well as referrals/connections connected to further support at The Foundling or in the greater community.
