The Staten Island Community Partnership operates in Staten Island’s North Shore and works hand-in-hand with community residents, local community groups, service providers, and our local government to encourage and develop new approaches to problem-solving around child abuse and neglect.

The Community Partnership, which is is supported by The New York Foundling and funded by the NYC Administration for Children’s Services, aims to weave a safety net for families by supporting them with family-centered, community-based services. The program provides impactful, educational, skills-building, creative, and meaningful encounters that enrich the lives of children and families. Together with our community partners, residents, and those closest to the challenges faced by the local community, we work to engage community members in understanding their strengths and needs and create sustainable solutions that produce positive change. Success Stories

Sharing responsibility and strengthening the family

Sixteen-year-old Sarah wanted to help care for her five siblings to support her family and because she was excited to become a mother herself one day. Unfortunately, her parents struggled with substance abuse and relied too heavily on Sarah to care for their younger children. They were referred to The Foundling and our team worked with the family to combat their substance abuse and to understand how their actions affected Sarah and her brothers and sisters. The right program model and their self-motivation helped them to move on and redistribute the responsibility for the family’s care.
