visits to our pediatric health & mental health centers serving young people in foster care
Access to quality education, consistent health and mental health care, affordable housing, and strength-building opportunities are essential to a lifetime of success. For our community in New York and Puerto Rico, these essential stepping stones may feel out of reach – particularly in our current moment. Together, we can change this.
It takes a village – particularly for those in the child welfare system who often face home instability and unique challenges. At The Foundling, our wide range of services help children grow each step of the way, from infancy to adulthood.
A child in foster care or one of our family support prevention programs may start their Foundling journey as an infant, receiving high-quality pediatric medical and mental health care through our health centers. In school, they might receive one-on-one Road to Success tutoring to bolster their academic success and workshops from our Child Abuse Prevention Program to help build healthy relationships. Each summer, they have the opportunity to attend Camp Felix, an experience that further fosters resilience, connections, and joy. As a young adult, our College Choice Support Services might provide wrap-around assistance as they navigate university, and our Supportive Housing program can provide subsidized housing, life skills training, and support to help them successfully launch into adulthood.
The Foundling is committed to providing a continuum of comprehensive care and supports for the young people that need it most. Your contribution allows us to adapt, innovate, and create opportunities for the children of New York.
Adults with developmental disabilities can often work, live on their own, and meaningfully engage with their community – yet often are barred from these opportunities. The Foundling’s person-centered programming means that each participant is supported in achieving their goals.
Our Day Habilitation and Employment Services help our participants learn independent living skills and find employment. Our Residential programs provide an array of supports, including nursing, mental health, and nutrition teams, and allow for advancement through various levels of independence over time. Our commitment to supportive housing for this population – including our Vital Brookdale complex with purpose-built units and co-located day services – ensures that residents have the wrap-around supports to maintain their very own home.
At The Foundling, we’re dedicated to seeing the potential in everyone that comes through our doors, and in looking beyond disability to elevate each person’s strengths. Your gift allows us to continue investing in the independence, self-sufficiency, and dignity of these adults in our community.

When families are struggling, they often don’t know where to turn. The Foundling works to meet them where they’re at – we spend each day out in the community, connecting residents with our wide array of programs and providing in-home evidence-based programming that gets results.
Families involved in our preventive programming, school and community based , health and behavioral health services receive holistic support and are often connected to additional resources – parenting and peer assistance, benefit access, and food pantry supports – through The Foundling to address additional needs. We are currently expanding our footprint to bolster community engagement by offering new family respite services, parenting supports for fathers, health centers in underserved neighborhoods, and expanded school based mental health services. These efforts are grounded in our desire to ensure our evidence-based models have broader reach and impact.
In a landscape where access to needed services can often seem precarious; The Foundling continues to step up for families and respond to their changing needs. With your donation, we will continue innovating to meet the current moment, providing effective services and solutions, and helping families thrive.
Be part of this movement and help grow our impact. Your donation will go directly to providing general support for The Foundling’s innovative, life-changing programming.
There is no contribution too large or too small.
