Enrolling in our Developmental Disabilities services can involve navigating a variety of systems – but we are here to help!

Signing up for our Residential, Day Habilitation, Community Habilitation, or Employment Services is a collaborative process between the The Foundling, the New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD), and you.

Developmental Disabilities

Getting Started with OPWDD

All of our Developmental Disabilities programs are funded and operated in conjunction with New York State’s Office for People With Developmental Disabilities. Consequently, one must be determined OPWDD-eligible to access services. This is done by contacting OPWDD and completing their Front Door process.

Once you reach out, OPWDD will determine eligibility for services (through assessments and documentation.) After completing the Front Door process, OPWDD will inform you about available Care Coordination Organizations (CCO) in your area to facilitate enrollment in services. These organizations, such as Advance Care Alliance, are non-profits that are designated by OPWDD to provide management of services. You always have a choice, and can change CCOs if needed. After connecting with your chosen agency, you will be assigned a Care Manager that will work directly with your family to suggest and identify services, submit applications and obtain approvals, and interact with community providers like The Foundling to sign up for programs and supports.

If you have not yet been in touch with OPWDD, watch the videos to learn more about this process!

Get started by visiting the OPWDD website or calling the OPWDD Infoline at 866-946-9733.
