Haven Academy Students Perform ‘Unstoppable: The Musical’

Children in foster care have faced an unimaginable amount of hardship in their young lives. To help people better understand these kids’ common struggles (and perseverance), students from Haven Academy performed an original show, Unstoppable: The Musical at the Sheen Center for Thought & Culture May 11-12, 2017.

“Unstoppable follows the lives of six creative and street smart urban kids — Adrian, Conrade, Taniesha, Luna, Melody and Malia — as they navigate their way through foster care, shelters, deportation and the unforgiving streets of New York City,” reads the show’s synopsis on Sheen’s webpage. “Despite the many obstacles and heartbreaks they face, nothing can stop them from dreaming as they reach for the stars.”

The students who performed are part of Haven Kids Rock, a music program for at-risk youth in the child welfare and foster care systems.
