Join The Foundling

Camp Felix is looking for energetic and enthusiastic staff members to help create an unforgettable experience this summer!

Camp Felix brings campers and counselors together for an adventure that changes their outlook on life and the future, as well as their sense of pride. Every summer, we get to watch our campers immerse themselves in activities that instill feelings of self-confidence, resilience, respect, and community.

This year, Camp Felix will be held at Club Getaway in Kent, CT. Transportation from NYC is provided for all campers and staff. This well-appointed campground features 300+ acres lakes, trees, and mountains, and features numerous amenities for campers, including:

  • A lake for swimming
  • Boating and fishing
  • Hiking trails and zipline
  • Climbing activities
  • Archery and sports fields/courts

Camp Felix is currently accepting applications for Camp Counselors and a Health Director.

Camp will run from July 28 – August 8 (2 Weeks, Monday – Friday only). Staff training will take place from July 22– 24, as well as July 27.

Staff can apply to work one session or both. All staff positions require living on-site on the weekdays while camp is in session.

Camp Counselor – Responsibilities and Requirements

Camp Counselors work under direct supervision of the Unit Leader to achieve Camp Felix goals and objectives by delivering a safe, fun and enriching summer camp program that helps Camp Felix campers build positive relationships, learn new skills, improve their self-esteem and develop healthy habits.

Duties Include:

  • Supervising campers during all activities, meals, shower time, and lights out. Participating in activities with them, and encourage them to participate as much as possible (i.e. arts & crafts, sports, hiking, dance, music, theater, swimming, etc).
  • Helping campers grow and develop by providing positive reinforcement, guidance, support and care.
  • Utilizing positive and supportive techniques and strategies to resolve problems and enforce discipline among campers.

Requirements Include:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High School or GED diploma preferred, not required.
  • Ideal candidate will have:
    • Experience working with children in some professional capacity (education setting, childcare facility, afterschool programs, recreation, instruction, etc)
    • Experience working in summer camps (day camp or sleepaway) and knowledge of the issues/needs of children involved in the child welfare system preferred
    • A strong desire to positively impact the lives of children and youth and serve as a positive role model

Health Director – Responsibilities and Requirements

The Health Director works under direct supervision of the Camp Director to achieve Camp Felix goals and objectives by providing on-site medical care to staff and campers, helping them maintain optimal health and wellness while at camp.

Duties Include:

  • Reviewing all campers’ medical applications and communicating with health care providers and other Camp Felix staff as needed
  • Ensuring medications are self-administered to all children as per health care provider’s orders
  • Reviewing and maintaining campers’ confidential medical records
  • Supervising health and sanitation at camp, overseeing the initial health screening of campers, and performing daily health surveillance of campers and staff
  • Handling health emergencies and injuries, including emergency preparedness procedures and follow up for professional health care.

Requirements Include:

  • Must have CT RN License, LPN License, or EMT
  • Must have at least 2 years clinical experience in pediatrics
  • Updated First Aid and CPR certifications required. Wilderness training certificate preferred
  • Ideal candidate will have:
    • Familiarity or experience with summer camps
    • Ability to work well with other staff and relate well to groups of young people
    • Demonstrated strong commitment to safety
    • A strong desire to positively impact the lives of children and youth and serve as a positive role model
