We are currently looking for Nurses to support our Developmental Disabilities Division and Medical Clinics. These positions are located in our residential homes and Foundling pediatric clinics, located throughout the 5 boroughs.

Developmental Disabilities: Registered Nurse – Responsibilities and Requirements

Duties Include:

  • Providing nursing care and coordinating medical services for people in assigned residential sites.
  • Assessing the medical needs of the participants, plans intervention, and evaluates outcome of care and performs treatments and special medical care as mandated.
  • Coordinating with other medical providers regarding care management.
  • Monitoring medical care of participants.
  • Providing medical consultation regarding individual medical needs through 24 x 7 telephone triage.
  • Providing or assisting with all activities of daily living for program participants. i.e. adequate intake of food and fluids, bathing, dressing, bowel and bladder care/toileting, oral/nasal hygiene, skin care and grooming.
  • Administering medication.
  • Providing AMAP certifications and recertification classes for IRA staff.
  • Monitoring and providing supervision to all AMAP certified staff.
  • Providing supervision of nutrition issues including assisting staff with menu preparation. Coordinates with dietician.
  • Coordinating medical services with Residence, Schools, and Day Services.
  • Attending in-service to maintain current knowledge and trends in developmentally disabilities and medical care.
  • Implementing plan of care as outlined in each medical profile, including positioning, play, feeding techniques, behavior modification and attention to ADL skills.
  • Providing in-service training on medical issues as required.
  • Recording monthly individual progress notes for each individual.

Requirements:

  • BSN preferred, ASN accepted.
  • Current NYS RN license required.
  • Updated First Aid/CPR certifications required.
  • 2-3 years working with adults with developmental disabilities.

Medical Clinic: Registered Nurse – Responsibilities and Requirements

Duties Include:

  • Obtaining and documenting vital signs including: head circumference, pulse, respiratory rate, height and weight, blood pressure, temperature; perform venipuncture and collect specimens for various labs; perform vision and hearing screening; perform skin testing for tuberculosis; administer immunizations as ordered by MD/PNP.
  • Assisting MD and/or PNP in conducting physical examinations, set up appointments for referrals. Follow-up and obtain reports.
  • Providing any necessary counseling and handouts to children and families.
  • Creating and maintaining a medical record for each child/young adult, and completing all documentation in the Electronic Health Record.
  • Work closely with social work staff to assure that required consents for routine/emergency care, preplanned medical procedures and psychotropic medication are obtained within mandated timeframes.
  • Assess and triage sick visits.

Requirements:

  • Associates’ Level Degree or better in Nursing
  • CPR and AED certified
  • Proficient in phlebotomy with infants and children
  • 2 years clinical experience in pediatrics
  • Knowledge of or experience in foster care or similar pediatric populations
