Support the Staten Island Community
In early 2020, responding to pandemic needs in the North Shore community of Staten Island, The Foundling’s Staten Island Community Partnership established a grocery distribution program to provide food and other necessities to our neighbors facing food insecurity and other challenges.
The food pantry – which has now operated biweekly for the past 3 years – provides nonperishable and perishable goods to the general public, serving 400 families a month in the 10310-zip code of Staten Island and the surrounding community, a food desert with no local supermarkets. The North Shore has the highest minority population, highest poverty, and highest unemployment rate in the borough.
The Pantry currently distributes food twice a month – a decrease from our weekly distributions during the pandemic. To meet the sustained need of our community, we aim to return to weekly distributions, which will be a critical benefit to the 400 families who depend on this program. The cost to increase our distributions to provide food to our community weekly is an additional $160,000.
Help us support these efforts: your generosity will provide support to your neighbors that need it most.
