Bill Baccaglini is a member of the newly created NYC Children’s Cabinet Advisory Board. The Board will enhance the ways in which City agencies promote and protect children across the City and will drive policy to support the health and well-being of youth across 24 City agencies. There is a tremendous need for more families to open their homes to foster children. These children need loving foster parents to care for them either for a transitional period or longer-term. In some cases, these children have been through a lot. Many have experienced some form of trauma at a very young age. The New York Foundling celebrated its First Annual Fall Fête, held on November 19th at the NoMad Hotel, by honoring two heavy hitters of philanthropy and hands on involvement with the issues faced by children and families in need. On Thursday, The New York Foundling hosted its first annual Fall Fête at The NoMad Hotel in New York City. The evening was emceed by Emmy Award-winning television host of NBC’s Talk Stoop Cat Greenleaf and featured a performance by New York singer and songwriter Rachel Brown. Other notable guests included Orange is the New Black’s Catherine Curtin and Joel Marsh Garland and The Knick’s Michael Nathanson.
Speaking about her personal connection to The Foundling and National Adoption Month, Cat Greenleaf shared how the organization supported her and her husband, Michael, ten years ago as they embarked on their journey to adopt their two sons, Primo and Truman. “When I’m here telling our success story, I think we never would have pushed through the miasma of the adoption world if it wasn’t for people who helped us guide our rudder and our compass along the way,” said Greenleaf. Tanya Goode had already been married and raised two adult sons, when life threw the New York resident an unexpected curve ball that made her a new ‘mommy’ again.
After a relative was unable to care for her brood of six children, Goode was asked in 2005 to step in as a “kinship” foster caregiver, and later decided to adopt.

Now imagine that none of that exists. Imagine how that would feel. Imagine how that would impact a child.
The New York Foundling has placed thousands of children in stable and loving foster homes over our long history. Brett is one of these young people. In foster care for many years, he found it hard to form long-lasting relationships and became weary of trusting adults.
