Juvenile & Criminal Justice

Close to Home

Adolescent Mentoring Program Close to Home Families Rising Kids Experiencing Young Successes Recognizing Emerging Adults & Creating Hope

The Foundling’s Close to Home program puts young people in the juvenile justice system on a new path by placing adjudicated juveniles in the homes of foster families that are specially-trained to support their needs.

Close to Home uses an evidence-based therapeutic model, Treatment Foster Care Oregon, as an alternative to group placement for youth sentenced by family court to a non-secure placement as a result of their involvement in the justice system. Young people in the program receive individual therapy as well as skills training, which takes place in the community to assist the youth in developing constructive, pro-social skills through recreational and occupational activities. The placement of these young people with specially- trained foster families allows us to rehabilitate rather than incarcerate, strengthening the relationship between youths and family by engaging all family members in the rehabilitative program.

Success Stories

As a young teen, Justice was arrested and found himself…

As a young teen, Justice was arrested and found himself facing a serious criminal accusation and possible jail time. His judge referred him to The Foundling's juvenile justice program, and the intensive counseling and support he and his family received from his therapist, Stephanie, helped him to avoid a criminal record and get back on the path to success.
