Joseph Saccoccio

Joseph R. Saccoccio, MD, MPH, FAAP

Chief Medical Officer & Senior Vice President, Medical Services
Senior Staff

Joseph R. Saccoccio, MD has nearly 40 years of experience in the field of pediatric medicine and joined The New York Foundling in 2003. Dr. Saccoccio oversees the organization’s entire medical services division for youth in foster care across its four medical clinics in New York City. Under Dr. Saccoccio’s leadership, The Foundling’s medical services team has grown to include a talented and dedicated team of pediatricians, psychiatrists, psychologists, and nurses with expertise and specialty training in pediatrics and trauma. The Foundling’s medical clinics have been recognized as a model of care by both the New York State Department of Health and the Office of Family and Children’s Services, and were instrumental in having The Founding gain its 29i license. Dr. Saccoccio led the charge in developing relationships with peer organizations across New York City, resulting in partnerships where The Foundling delivers medical care and treatment to children in foster care with other child welfare agencies. Dr. Saccoccio has overseen the transition of all children in foster care with The Foundling into New York State’s network of Medicaid Managed Care Plans. Over the past 17 months, Dr. Saccoccio developed and spearheaded The Foundling’s extensive and comprehensive COVID-19 health and safety protocols to keep employees, clients, and the community safe.

Before joining The Foundling, Dr. Saccoccio served as Medical Director of Brookwood Child Care, located in Brooklyn, NY. He received his B.S. and M.D degrees from Georgetown University, and completed his residency and internship at the New York Hospital Cornell Medical Center’s Department of Pediatrics. He holds a M.P.H. degree from the Columbia University School of Public Health. Dr. Saccoccio is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Task Force on Health Care for Children in Foster Care, the Council of Family and Child Caring Agencies Health Care Workgroup, and various health-related committees and groups for NYC’s Administration of Children’s Services.
