2018 TCS New York City Marathon: Team Foundling Runner Darwin Vazquez
The New York Foundling is teaming up with the TCS New York City Marathon again this year as an Official Charity Partner in the November 4 race. Our team of runners is ready to run their hearts out in support of The New York Foundling, which reaches 30,000 children, youth, individuals, and families each year through programs in child welfare, behavioral health, juvenile justice, developmental disabilities, and education.
For Darwin, one of Team Foundling’s official runners for the 2018 marathon, the mission of The Foundling hits close to home. As a clinical psychotherapist at The New York Foundling’s Brooklyn mental health clinic, Darwin witnesses firsthand the importance behavioral health support makes for families involved in the child welfare system.
What motivated you to run for The New York Foundling’s team in the TCS Marathon?
My patients and colleagues have inspired me to run for The New York Foundling’s team. I am inspired by the strengths that children and families in the foster care system have and by the dedication of my colleagues to address complex structural problems.
What makes you passionate about The New York Foundling’s cause?
I am passionate about helping children in the foster care system. As a therapist it is heartbreaking to witness the trauma that children and their families in the foster care system have experienced, yet, there is something that keeps them moving forward. It is this force that inspires me to improve myself as a human being.
What are you most looking forward to about this year’s race?
I am most looking forward to running with thousands of people from all over the world and feeding off everyone’s positive energy.
