Volunteer at New York Foundling:Our dedicated volunteers work in a variety of assignments in many New York Foundling programs. Volunteers offer their time to be mentors, to assist with recreational and special events, to provide computer and other administrative skills, and to participate in social events and lend their creative talents to running cultural projects for families and children. Our volunteers play a vitally important role at the Foundling. The excellent care our children receive from our highly trained professional staff can be dramatically enriched by the individual attention offered by volunteers in our programs. This is why we need you! Volunteers must be at least 17 years of age. As a Foundling Volunteer you will be assigned a mutually agreeable, designated day and time for your service. Our hope is that you will adhere to that schedule as much as possible. We ask for a commitment of at least two hours per week for a period of one year. Volunteer opportunities exist in Manhattan, the Bronx, Queens, Staten Island, and Rockland County. While all help is welcome, we are always interested in any special talents, skills, or knowledge that you can share with our children. We particularly need mentors, current or retired teachers, computer skills instructors, home improvement specialists, those who can do yard work, MSW's and CSW's, musicians and performers, those who can teach grooming and skin care, and those who have skills in the arts, including arts and crafts. ApplicationInterested volunteers are interviewed by our Manager of Volunteers. This interview is designed to provide information about The New York Foundling and to solicit information needed to determine appropriate placements. Specific information on available volunteer positions, including a review of possible volunteer job descriptions, is discussed during this interview. For more information, please call Alan Shatz at (212) 886-4039 or e-mail: Alans@nyfoundling.org.
