Bronx Teen Parenting Program Navigating Young Parenthood
Keeping young families together-and their children out of the foster care system-is the bedrock principle
of the Bronx Teen Parenting Program. The program's services assist teenaged parents and soon-to-be
parents in setting and achieving realistic goals for themselves and their offspring. Through outreach in
schools, young parents are able to walk in to our facility for free help. Through positive reinforcement, support
groups, and setting realistic goals, the Bronx Teen Parenting Program intervenes before the cycles of child
abuse and neglect begin. While some young parents' participation is mandated (due to reported child abuse
and neglect), all participants-voluntary and mandatory-benefit from our services. Regular follow-up and
evaluations ensure ongoing participation, while preschool and language classes provide early education
for the children of these at-risk families. We assist with:
- Earning a high-school diploma or GED
- Resolving family conflicts
- Securing and keeping a job
- Providing respite and day care services
