With the support of a caring community and in partnership with the Stephen Siller FDNY "Let Us Do Good" Children’s Foundation, The New York Foundling is nearing completion of a new temporary home for the children coming into our care. Firefighter Stephen Siller courageously lost his life on September 11th, 2001, and his family created the Foundation in his honor.
Stephen’s House of The New York Foundling will offer its residents a new perspective. With twenty-four single rooms on two floors, one for teenage girls and the other for teenage boys, children will have the privacy and personal space they need to help work through the traumatic histories that brought them into our care. Children living in Stephen’s House will have ample lounge, bathing and recreational space. A meditation room will overlook greenery and gardens that the youths will be encouraged to help cultivate. There will be ample visiting rooms for children to visit privately with family and friends. Recognizing that healthy bodies can help build healthy minds, Stephen’s House will also provide game and exercise rooms for its residents.
The Foundling’s staff of professional social workers, case workers and medical and mental health specialists will evaluate and diagnose each teen’s needs to determine the programs and services that would be most helpful, with the goal of returning the youth to a stable family as quickly as possible.
Please help us finish the path to Stephen's House! For a limited time, you can purchase and inscribe bricks that will make up the pathway leading to the doors of Stephen's House. Join us and follow the footsteps of an American hero.
