As one of the City’s oldest and largest child welfare agencies, The New York Foundling touches the lives of more than 7,000 people each day, and more than 13,000 people each year. Foundling: The Story of the New York Foundling Hospital

Through compelling black-and-white photography and informative, engaging text, this stunning book chronicles the evolution of The New York Foundling. The book portrays our humble beginnings in 1869, when Sr. Mary Irene Fitzgibbon and the Sisters of Charity placed a bassinet on the doorstep of their brownstone to accept foundlings and, taking the reader through the years, arrives at the beginning of the 21st century, as we continue to evolve to meet the needs of the most vulnerable.
