Each year, the support and generosity of our corporate partners bring joy to the children and families in our care. Many of our corporate friends make their participation an annual tradition; each year new friends join in the celebration. Please consider how you, your colleagues and your company can bring smiles to the faces of children and families whose holidays may not be as joyous as they would hope for. If you would like more information, please call 212-886-4002. We welcome the support of our friends all year round.
Here are some of the wonderful ways in which our friends in the corporate community are making our children and families feel special this holiday season:
Our friends at Mickey Mantle's Restaurant opened their doors for two Foundling events. They hosted our annual Thanksgiving Cocktail Party in honor of our In-Kind donors, from whom we receive more than $1 million in in-kind donations each year - items that ensure our children and families feel loved and cared for, such as diapers and formula for the infants in our Crisis Nursery, winter hats and gloves for our families, laptops for our high schoolers who are on their way to college and so much more. In early December, Mickey Mantle's hosted our annual wreath-decorating party for our young holiday revelers. This year's party welcomed 10 volunteers from Clifford Chance, LLP, who helped the children decorate their very own wreaths. The wreaths, bearing the children's names, will be displayed at the restaurant throughout the holiday season for patrons to admire.
Friends of New York Real Estate have become friends of The Foundling. We are grateful to be the beneficiary of the Fourth Annual Friends of NY Real Estate "Thank You for Giving Toy Drive" , which took place on Monday, November 30th. The Toy Drive provided toys for the children in our care during the holiday season and funds raised will support our programs throughout the year.
Volunteers from Macy's upheld an annual tradition and transformed the lobby of The Foundling's headquarters on 6th Avenue into a winter wonderland. A corps of artistic elves ushered in the holiday season and beautified the lobby of our building, which is also home to several of The Foundling's residences.
Our friends Nefertiti Jones and Jimi K Bones hosted a benefit concert at Crash Mansion, 199 Bowery, on December 2nd. A silent auction, great performances and food made the night a merry one. Proceeds of the event will support the Arts and Music Program at The New York Foundling’s Mott Haven Academy Charter School. Gibson Kids Rock, a featured element of the Program, was created by Nefertiti Jones and Jimi K Bones, with the help of Gibson Guitars, to bring music into the lives of children in New York City’s child welfare system. In addition to the event, proceeds from the recent auction of a Gibson Epiphone Les Paul Special guitar, signed by some of the hottest names in music, will help bring music to the lives of inner city children.
The Maxim Group, LLC, continued its tradition of bringing holiday fun and excitement to our kids. Maxim staffers treated 20 of the teens living in our Staten Island diagnostic center to lunch and a behind-the-scenes tour of the Chrysler Building. They showered the kids with clothes and duffel bags and brought smiles to their faces when they announced that a large, flat-screen HDTV, complete with a Wii console and other games, would be waiting for them upon their impending move into Stephen's House.
A group of young musicians from The Noel Pointer Foundation performed two concerts for our children on December 18th. The Foundation conducts music programs in inner-city schools and a group of students from its programs first performed at Haven Academy, and then gave a concert at our Mott Haven location to members of our Leadership Program.
For the second year, the Hard Rock Café Times Square threw a Holiday Breakfast Party for teens in our Mott Haven Leadership Program and students at Haven Academy. Every child left with a fantastic rock 'n roll goody bag of gifts courtesy of the Hard Rock and a new pair of Nike sneakers, thanks to the generosity of long-time Foundling friends World Boxing Cares and our new friends, Athletes for Charity.
On December 21, our loyal friends from the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority, along with Santa himself, visited The Foundling, carrying bags of goodies from their annual toy drive. The same morning, Morandi, a Keith McNally restaurant, hosted 40 of our children for a holiday breakfast, complete with entertainment and gifts for all.
Looking ahead...
