170 Brown Place - The Embodiment of Our Vision to Reduce
the Achievement Gap Plaguing Children in the Child Welfare System
The New York Foundling has the potential to revolutionize, nationwide, the educational experience of children in the child welfare system. We have built a highly visible Community Services and K-8 Charter School complex in the Mott Haven Section of the Bronx – one of the country’s poorest community districts.
With this first-of-its-kind program model, The New York Foundling is bringing to life our vision for the future of our country’s poorest children: a school that removes the barriers to academic achievement faced by children in the child welfare system.
By co-locating our Charter School with our existing Bronx Community Services, we are enabling our educators and social service staff to work hand in hand to give every young student his or her best possible chance to thrive.
A Unique Partnership
The New York Foundling is uniquely suited to undertake this pioneering merger of the life of the student with the life of the family. We have a 140-year history of developing services for the most vulnerable children in our society and have served the Mott Haven community for over 40 years.
Support the Campaign
We need strong support from our community; including individuals, corporations, community leaders and foundations who are committed to addressing the needs of children in the child welfare community.
The building opened its doors on September 1, 2010, and we are nearing our capital campaign goal. To discuss how you might like to support this groundbreaking project, and for more information about additional giving opportunities, please contact:
