The New York Foundling Family Day Care Program has been providing vital support to families and children in the Bronx and Manhattan since 1968. More than 75 Family Day Care Providers help low-income parents achieve financial independence and peace of mind by providing safe, nurturing child care in a family setting in their communities. The services are offered on a sliding fee scale and are supported by subsidies from New York City’s Administration for Children’s Services (ACS).

Family Day Care Providers:
- are trained and licensed individuals
- care for children ages 6 weeks to 12 years
- provide services Monday through Friday, 8 am to 6 pm
- can accommodate from 2-12 children in each home at one time, depending on the Provider’s license capacity

The Foundling supports providers through workshops and individualized training on a variety of topics including nutrition, child development, health and safety, child abuse and neglect, behavior management and childhood care and education. Our staff visits the providers’ homes on a monthly basis to ensure the homes are kept safe and are furnished adequately with childproof furniture.

The Foundling understands that the needs of the children and families in the Family Day Care Program may be complex and numerous. In addition to placing children in providers’ homes, we assist families with:
- obtaining city vouchers and sliding scale child care fees paperwork
- securing referrals for special needs children, all areas of welfare, elementary schools, preventive services and medical and mental health centers
- accessing trainings to enhance parenting and work-related skills

We encourage providers to conduct educational activities designed to enhance the children’s physical, emotional, social developmental, cognitive, and communication skills. Our program follows the regulated guidelines of the following government agencies:
- City of New York Department of Health and Mental Hygiene
- State of New York Department of Health-Child and Adult Care Food Program
- Agency for Children’s Services
