Treatment and Support Services

New York Foundling provides specialized therapy to sexual abuse victims in its foster care and residential programs and to their non-perpetrating parents. The Fontana Center has plans to extend this treatment to survivors of other forms of abuse, and to increase capacity to serve a larger population of suffering families in the community.

Two treatment/support programs are currently managed by The Fontana Center:

OUR PLACE - The Slow Road Back to Trust

Sexually and physically abused children lack the ability to trust appropriately or maintain loving relationships with adults. Untreated abuse victims are prone to a host of lifelong behavioral problems. Many grow up to abuse their own children, perpetuating the cycle. To heal key relationships, "Our Place", a program conducted in collaboration with the Vincent J. Fontana Center for Child Protection, offers highly specialized individual and group therapy to abused children and their non-perpetrating parent. Timely intervention helps these children regain their sense of identity while developing a capacity to trust and love appropriately.

HEALTHY FAMILIES

This primary prevention program serves women who are pregnant or have infants less than three months old who live in 5 zip codes on the north shore of Staten Island . It is designed to promote positive parenting skills and healthy parent-child interaction.
