Family Crisis Center
and Crisis Nursery
Avoiding the Eye of the Storm
A single mother is hospitalized, leaving her
children without adult care. An abusive ex-spouse
forces his way into an apartment and threatens
the children. A beleaguered parent snaps,
overwhelmed by her infant's incessant screaming.
These are just some of situations that bring
children - newborn to age seven - to our Family
Crisis Center and Crisis Nursery. The first program
of its kind in New York City and a national model,
the Crisis Center/Nursery provides a safe haven
until the crisis passes, the urgent need for
protection is stabilized, underlying parental
problems are identified, and necessary support
services are put in place. Families use the
Crisis Center/Nursery on a voluntary basis,
knowing its services include:
- A safe haven for young children
- Referrals for counseling and care
- A 24-Hour Family Crisis Hot-Line
- Follow-up services provided by The Foundling
New York Foundling Parent Helpline - Offering understanding, support and help 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
